Taking time out of the day for yourself has physical, mental, and emotional benefits.
Self-care is more than manicures and massages. It’s getting to know yourself as a person and tending to your needs physically, mentally, and emotionally. It manifests in different ways from buying a new book at the local bookstore, eating fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmer’s market, drinking naturally flavored water, moving your body to the rhythm of your favorite song or soothing your skin with a luxurious moisturizer.
Self-care is personal and customized to the individual. There are many ways to nourish yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Only you know what your mind, body, and soul needs and desires now.
Here are a few of the things you can start doing today.
Be gentle with yourself and others.
Develop a healthy amount of compassion for yourself, your family, and the people you interact with daily. You need kindness in your life just as much as others do. Treat yourself with the same patience and respect you give to the people you love and care most about.
Take exceptionally good care of your skin.
Cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin regularly. Wear sunscreen, long sleeves, a hat, and sunglasses when you’re spending time outdoors. Avoid taking hot showers which zap moisture from your skin.
Make sure that you’re getting adequate nutrition, hydration, and rest.
If you aren’t, it’s a recipe for disaster because your physical and mental health will suffer. You’ll be an emotional mess, too, because you can no longer think rationally. Listen to your body’s subtle cues and honor them with good food, lots of water, and quality sleep.
Self-care is an amazing form of healthcare. If you haven’t taken some time out of your week for just you, now is the time to do so. When you radiate beauty inside and out, it’s hard to dismiss your glow. People are attracted to your positivity, your ravishing skin, and your radiant smile.
