Daily rituals work because when you build them into your routine, they become habits. So try some of these practices as a matter of habit.
1. Quiet time.
Take 15-20 minutes each morning and night just for yourself. Got kids? Call it a Mommy/Daddy time out.
2. Jump around.
Do 50 jumping jacks when you get out of bed. Here’s why. Your lymphatic system is a network of vessels that removes toxins by recycling blood plasma through your body. But unlike your blood, it hasn’t got a pump. So get moving to detoxify daily.
3. Give it away.
Make a habit of giving something away daily. It can be a sweater, a warm smile, even a compliment. Giving away things you no longer need is a great way to offer them new life with someone who’ll use them and get them out of your way. That helps clear your mind.
4. Schedule email.
If you’re in the habit of checking email every few minutes, you’re breaking your all-important concentration. Instead, schedule a few 20-30 minute blocks of time each day to focus on email so you can keep focused on more important tasks the rest of the day.
5. Keep a gratitude journal.
Science shows that practicing gratitude works myriad ways to help you stay happy. Keep track of the things and people you’re thankful for. No time for a journal? Post to Facebook!
